The first baking delivery

Our close friends consider us as a crazy couple. Whenever there is an opportunity to get out of the hamster wheel we jump at it. One such opportunity came up in the Jan of 2017 when one of my husband's brother in law was celebrating his 25th wedding anniversary. Since we are very close to them we were quite invested in the celebrations and merrymaking. One of the characteristics of being a Bong is to talk about food and 'whats in the menu' discussion. So here we were in the cold December of 2016 we huddled together the BBQ pit in Shantiniketan and started discussing 'what will be in the menu'.

I could not participate in the discussion as I was busy tending  to a grey fussy kid, he was three then and he wanted to hog all my attention. When the discussion came to dessert I stood up in the middle and said , ' Guys, I want to test my baking skills and make Ebony and Ivory '. The Husband stared at me, I could see the thought wheels working out at the back of his mind. He was thinking time, cost, volume, logistics. 'Can you make them for 100 guests? Staying in Gurgaon and delivering in Shantiniketan with a kid? '. I sighed, and spoke up ' Yeah, I better make it.  That was it, I had to bake for one hundred people.

I looked up baking recepie page and created an Excel workbook model to generate my shopping list. Isn't that just cool when you happen to be an expert in Excel! With a busy life, ordered my groceries from the Amazon pantry. The boy looked over when he saw his Mommy fussing and measuring and planning. I even planned baking schedule over 2 days after work hours.

Two days before traveling to Shantiniketan I started baking. My house smelt of a bakery. The first evening the husband said, he feels like the Charlie and the Chocolate factory. The second say he said out house smells of a biscuit factory. It was a good experience, it was mechanical with proper planning for time , effort, packing well executed plan. I made around 120 pieces of chocolate walnut brownies laced with some Old monk rum, the flavor was so rich and warm, that got me quite a bit of a fan following.

I remember another time I made 10 large Bundt cake for Christmas and took it home during winter break. The husband never objects to this, it's always win win for him and my boy, kept singing Pat a cake, Pat a cake.
